Width at widest point 22 1/2"
Swedish Mora clock from the late 1700's. This is a clock from Fryksdal, known for their elaborate elegant clocks. This spectacular clock is from Värmland in Sweden and is called a Fryksdalsur. Värmland County is located in west central Sweden and it borders Dalarna and Norway. The original paint was possibly white then repainted about 1930 a dusky rose. I repainted this clock too - in black with an antiquing. Whoever repainted the clock in the 1930's covered some of the beautiful gilding, which I have recovered best possible.
The woman's face itself is extraordinarily appealing. The decorative woman's face with her guard of gryphons was luckily untouched and in its original paint.
8 days works, no chime. The works have been cleaned and are running well.
The body is fully pegged together.
This is the only clock we have ever seen with an hourglass decoration - how appropriate!
