Oh so charming small Danish Baroque clock dated 1812. Hand wrought hinges and latch.
On the bonnet top and back of the interior head are labels from an antiques dealer in Copenhagen, Denmark...Brenderup Antiques.
The clock face is typical of the time period, made of finely wrought pewter and brass with a colored floral decoration:
Photos of the face, click on a photo to enlarge:
The clock face was signed by the clockmaker, Franz Dislev. There is a date on this pewter disk of 1812:
You can see the pendulum swinging in the little window on the right side of the bonnet:
The works are a rare 48 hour works, cleaned and running very well.
The body was definitely repainted in dark green and red paints perhaps in the 1940's. The top of the bonnet had a little finial in each corner, now missing. I do have some tiny finials that I can put back there if you like. We tried some and decided that we liked the clock better without them, but they are available and I can put them there for you.
Please scroll down and look at the two slideshows. The lower of the two slideshows has photos of the wonderful back. The back board was shaped by scraping and burning. It was then pegged to the body.
The body is strong and sturdy. Overall, the clock is ready to to go home with you to provide the quiet warmth of the heart of the home with its lovely chime and quiet tick tock.
